The goal of Faith Formation, as presented in the National Catechetical Directory (#32), is “to develop a living, conscious, active faith life within the Christian community”.

Our Faith Formation program is offered in the hopes of providing two very important things to the children and by extension the domestic church – the family. The program seeks to provide an education of the faith and an encounter with our loving Father. These two things, education and encounter, are beneficial for the whole family, as children first learn to love the Lord through those entrusted to care for them. This is what the diocese has identified as evangelizing catechesis.

The whole program follows 3 important pillars of formation…

1: Sunday Liturgy (Mass) is the primary source for worship and catechesis. Mass, for the baptized, is essential to how we grow in grace and relationship with Jesus. When we go to
Mass, we are connected to the life-giving saving grace of Christ – His life, death and resurrection, which is perfectly re-presented at Mass. Christ is present in the words of
Scripture piercing the hearts and minds of the faithful, and in the Eucharist, to nourish and transform. As the baptized, we offer to God the Father the only perfect sacrifice: the Son. And,
since the Son has generously made us members of his body through baptism, we have an obligation to active participation at the liturgy.

2: Family Catechetical Gatherings (FCG) serve to reinforce and grow the domestic church and support parents/guardians as primary educators in matters of faith for their children. The
monthly Family Catechetical Gatherings are open to the whole parish community and designed to bring families together around the table to pray, learn and review the beauty of our
Catholic Faith, which is rich in traditions and celebrations throughout the entire liturgical year. Families enrolled in the summer program or Homebased Catechesis must attend.

3: Catechesis for children is where they learn about our faith in a wraparound spiral curriculum format and prepare for the reception of Sacraments. The parish follows the
diocesan guidelines of Catechesis for children by offering levels 1 through 8 with preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Communion, and Confirmation as well as Order of
Christian Initiation adapted for children. Catechesis for children is offered in the Fall to Spring term both in-classroom and Homebased Catechesis (HBC) and during the Summer in our
Summer Intensive Program (8 days.)

The St. Charles Parish Faith Formation Program for levels 1 through 8 is offered weekly for the Fall to Spring seasons on Sunday mornings (10:15am-11:15am) and Tuesday evenings (5:30pm-6:30pm). Homebased Catechesis is also available - parents serve as catechist at home, and the Faith Formation office provides materials and structure to follow in order to complete the year on time.
